Ever since we ate the BEST meatball ricotta pizza in New York City (back in 2016), I’ve been trying to recreate it. VERY hard to do because NYC pizza is so amazing! So here we go. I’ve got all the delicious details for you!
Best Meatball Pizza Recipe
I used homemade recipes for all three of these parts, but you could easily take a short-cut or two. However, I don’t recommend buying the meatballs. My recipe is super easy and is the foundation for a great meatball pizza.
For all of my pizza recipes, you can choose to bake them 1) in cast iron skillets in the oven or on a grill, 2) on baking sheets in the oven, or 3) on pizza stones in either the oven, grill, or smoker. We tend to rotate how we cook them based on the weather outside and how many people we are feeding.

Spicy Meatball Pizza With Provolone Picante, Pecorino Toscano, And Ricotta
I love them. Any kind really. Beef, pork, chicken – they all have a space in my heart. But! If I have to chose the equivalent of a soul mate in my meatball world, it’s hands-down, the classic version. Beef and Italian sausage, packed with crushed saltine crackers, lots of parmesan, spices, garlic, and pan-fried until irresistibly crusty and brown.
Even after they’ve made their appearance in the more classic vessel of spaghetti and meatballs, I find ways to transform them into something I can eat for days on end. These Meatball Sliders are a favorite, but I’ve also been known to throw them in a lasagna-inspired soup, or obviously, nestled into hoagies, and smothered with mozzarella for a take on a meatball sub.

Because our perfect meatballs, basically make this pizza, I highly recommend using them as opposed to any other meatball recipe, or store-bought. However, if you’re in a pinch, or already have a different version of meatballs leftover and ready to use, go for it.

While you can use your own meatballs or store-bought, I HIGHLY recommend using the meatballs from our recipe The Best Spaghetti and Meatballs there ever was. The meatballs are the PERFECT consistency, so flavorful, and you'll be glad you made them! Make spaghetti and meatballs the night before, then this the next day!

Hot And Spicy Meatball Pizza
Now back to the food…. This recipe is actually 2 recipes in one (well kind of). I have purposefully made extra meatballs and extra sauce with the recipe for you to save and then make a meal out of the next day. All you would then have to do it fry up the meatballs, mix in with the sauce and cook some pasta and you have yourself a very quick, easy and tasty dinner. Either that or turn it into bolognaise or do what I did and make it into a lasagne. You therefore cut your next day prepping time right down and have two meals to enjoy.
Mix all the meatball ingredients together until well combined and then roll half the mixture into small balls about the size of a gobstopper. Place the other mixture in a bowl and keep it to make another meal out of it.

When your dough has doubled in size, roll out so it is about 1mm thick and spread it on a pizza tray. The ones with holes in are best as they make the basis crispy, or a pizza stone. If you don’t have either of these it may be worth pre-cooking the base for 2-3 minutes just to stop in going soggy. With any leftover dough you have use it to make a garlic bread side (search for the recipe on homemade with mess).
Deep Dish Meatball Pizza
Spread half the sauce on the pizza (again, save half for another meal) and then top with all the toppings and the mozzarella
