Mushroom Olive Pizza Recipe

Mushroom Olive Pizza Recipe

My all time favorite toppings for Pizza are Black Olives and Mushrooms and as much as I love Olives I never thought to use Green ones on Pizza. It wasn’t until I spotted the most delicious looking post on Instagram that inspired me to recreate this Pizza and make it Vegan. Just like the recipe creator I also used King Arthurs recipe for the dough and suggestion for making the Pizza. You can find it here You can also choose to use a very simple pizza dough and still use the cast iron for a crispier crust. Using the no knead method of folding and allowing the dough to develop flavor overnight is what creates those pillowy air bubbles within the crust. If you love pan pizza and have the time go ahead and give it a try, it’s worth the wait!

Note: If using plain tomato sauce feel free to add some italian seasoning or garlic/ onion powder to give it a little pick me up in flavor.

2. Once the dough has rested overnight and ready to use, place the dough into a well oiled cast iron pan. Use your fingers to dimple the dough and stretch it out. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes and repeat until the dough is stretched to the edge of the pan. Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for 2 hours while you prepare the toppings.

3. On medium heat, lightly sauté the mushrooms until they begin to cook down, about 5 minutes. Season with salt & pepper and then set aside. Split the olives in half and set aside. Lastly, if you are using plain tomato sauce, season it with any combination of salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder or Italian seasoning. I also like to add a small amount of sugar (about 1 tsp) to balance out the acid.

4. When the the pizza crust is ready to be topped, add about half of the cheese to the dough and then spoon on dollops of sauce on top. This will keep the crust from getting soggy from the sauce. Repeat with another layer of cheese. Then add on the olives and mushrooms.

5. Before preheating the oven, position one rack at the bottom of your oven and one rack at the top (make sure your pan fits on top) Bake the pizza on the bottom rack at 450 for 18-20 minutes. At the 18 minute mark check to see if the bottom is done and nice and brown. At this point if the bottom still needs color then leave it where it is and continue cooking for a few more minutes. If the top needs more color and meltiness then reposition the pizza to the top rack and continue cooking for a few minutes.Cheesy Olive Pizza with Mushrooms and Burrata is the perfect pizza recipe for my olive lovers! This pizza has a garlic white sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, olives, and arugula! It's so good, you'll wonder why you hadn't made this sooner!

Prosciutto And Castelvetrano Olive Pizza

I mean where do I even begin? Olives, mushrooms, cheesy garlic sauce topped with mozzarella - and a little thyme and arugula to top it off?! Oh, and don't forget about the burrata! If it sounds too good to be true, it's not. Why? Because I've included the recipe below 🙂 Seriously, this Cheesy Olive Pizza with Mushrooms and topped with Burrata - it's SO good. The pizza crust is homemade and is perfectly crisp and so easy to make. You truly can't go wrong with this one. It's officially time to head to the grocery store, grab the ingredients, and make this delicious pizza!

Start by making the pizza crust. If you're too excited about this recipe and want to use store bought pizza dough, I totally understand. However, it's SO worth it to make your own. It's healthier, far easier than you would expect, and honestly, it's a lot of fun.

Anywho, start by making the pizza crust. Simply combine the ingredients for the crust, knead into a ball and let the dough rise for about 2 hours. Roll the dough onto a piece of parchment paper and shape into a circle until the dough is about ¼ inch thick.

Once the dough is made, mix together the ingredients to make the white sauce in a small sauce pan. It's merely butter, flour, salt and pepper, garlic, and mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Cook on low until the sauce thickens and spread sauce on top of the pizza dough. You only need a thin layer so you may have a tiny bit of the white sauce leftover. (I dipped a piece of bread in the leftover sauce and it was amazing)

Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, sliced olives, fresh thyme, and sliced mushrooms. Bake in the oven at 450 °F for about 15-18 minutes, until the crust has browned and the cheese has melted. Mix a handful of arugula with a drizzle of olive oil and add to the top of the pizza. It's sheer perfection. For added measure, I sliced up more olives and added that to the top of the pizza with burrata as well!

You'll only need a baking sheet OR a pizza stone, a small sauce pan, and lots of love to make this recipe 🙂 For the pizza dough, I used a stand mixer, however, you can absolutely knead this by hand!

Best Sausage, Mushroom, And Black Olive White Pizzas Recipe

Absolutely! However, there's nothing quite like homemade pizza crust! It's healthier and so easy to make! You literally add all of the ingredients to a stand mixer and knead into a ball! Let the dough rise and boom, you've got pizza dough!

Now of course, if you don't have time to make your own pizza dough, I totally understand. For store bought pizza dough, I would recommend Pillsbury canned classic Pizza Dough or Whole Food whole wheat pizza dough. For gluten free options, Udi's has great options!

Olives are actually a fruit! They're in the same family as peaches and mangoes which are all considered stone fruit! The olive's pits are called stones, the same with dates and peaches and even plums! So, the next time you eat olives - whether it be this pizza recipe or your favorite martini - know that you're getting a serving of fruit 🙂

Pizza dough – Homemade semolina dough is perfect. Many Italian restaurants or pizza joints will sell their pizza dough. Freshly made is definitely best.
