Homemade bbq chicken pizza on made from scratch dough topped with barbecue sauce, chopped chicken, onions, and tons of cheese. Our family’s favorite pizza!
It has been a while since I made pizza. I must say there’s nothing quite like a cheesy, soft and crispy, loaded with your favorite toppings, homemade pizza.

Do you have a favorite? I often crave my cheesy and spicy buffalo chicken pizza. This BBQ chicken pizza has become a high priority around here. Sweet and spicy barbecue sauce or your favorite, chopped chicken, sliced onions, and freshly grated mozzarella cheese.

For the chicken, you can easily use a leftover rotisserie. I love to make use of our leftovers this way. If you don’t have any on hand just cook up a large chicken breast.
I recommend simmering it in a pot of salted water until cooked through. Remove it from the water and let it cool completely before shredding.
This pizza has an incredible flavor, especially when you’re using your favorite barbecue sauce. You will fall in love with it! Forget takeout tonight and enjoy a homemade bbq chicken pizza instead.
Andouille And Bbq Chicken Pizza
Start with my favorite homemade pizza crust. I wrote a post a while back about how to make homemade pizza dough. You will find a lot of helpful tips to help you along the way.
Top the dough with your favorite BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, and thinly sliced onion. I use about ½ cup barbecue sauce and I like to layer it on so that it doesn’t make the crust soggy.
Spread half over the crust and the other half over the chicken just before you add the cheese. You get sauce in each bite while the crust stays soft and crisp.

I used fresh mozzarella cheese that I grated myself. The soft silkiness of fresh cheese is unbeatable. I feel like they melt better and simply taste better.
But this is not a must-have. If all you have in your fridge is a package of shredded mozzarella cheese, it will work just fine.
Bake it for 15-17 minutes at 475°F. Make sure the rack is set to the lower-third position so the crust bakes up crisp.

Second, this bbq pizza recipe uses my pride and joy Cherry Chipotle Barbecue Sauce . In the morning, I threw the pork in the slow cooker with some sauce and let it go slow and low all day.

When we came homethat evening, my housesmelled like heaven. Pork fumes wafting out the nooks and crannies of my home perfuming my whole little corner of the world and making the neighbors jealous.

I lived in Texas during my 20s and hated it. It was too hot, too flat, too dry, too… Texas.I need ocean. I need trees. I need east coast.
But Texas does do one thing right …food. Grub in the Lonestar State is amazing. Texas is also where I learned to cook. So this pizza is ashout-out toTexas.
Texas barbecue is all about the rub seasoning before cooking (if it is even used, because often it may just be salt and pepper), wood or coals during cooking, then just the right sauce after cooking. Barbecue in Texas is simple and delicious.
Easy Bbq Chicken Pizza
Smoked brisket served with simply with fresh sliced onion, jalapeno, thick-sliced sandwich bread, and beans would be a typical meal. However, which meat – brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey or pork, varies with the region. Texas is THAT big, that barbecue is regional.
There is not a town in Texas where there isn’t a (or many) barbecue joint. I have had it in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Amarillo, and Texas barbecue is fantastic every time.

Earlier in the day, season the pork, and put in your slow cooker with some barbecue sauce. Cook the pork 8 to 10 hours on the low heat setting. Alternatively, you can cook for 4-6 hours on high heat. Once, that is done, shred the meat. This can be done up to 3 days in advance.

The pulled pork can be cooked up to 3 days in advance (or even further, if you freeze it). This recipe does lend itself to using any pulled pork actually. Doesn’t have to be mine specifically.
I highly recommend either my Sam Adams Beer Pizza Dough or Whole Wheat Pizza Dough for this pizza. However, if you aren’t up for all that, then I find fresh dough in the bakery section of my grocery store. Another alternative is to use a precooked, purchased crust.
If using fresh pizza dough, always thoroughly preheat the pizza stone (or bake sheet) in the oven to ensure the dough cooks completely.

I recommend keeping an eye on the pizza (through the oven door with the light on – don’t open the oven and let heat escape). This way if the cheese on top starts to brown around the edges too quickly, you can reduce the heat. If we take the pizza out too early, we may have under-cooked dough in the center and no one wants that.
This recipe uses my Sam Adams Pizza Dough made with beer. Also check out my Homemade Pizza Sauce with wine and garlic.

Both my Sam Adams Beer Pizza Dough and Whole Wheat Pizza Dough make enough dough for 2 pizzas. Therefore, in addition to the Texas pizza, you can make another, such as a Random Veggie Pizza to use stuff up from the fridge.

What’s your favorite type of pizza? BBQ chicken might just be it for me, though I do love traditional Pepperoni and sometimes I’m in the mood to liven things up with Garlic Ranch Chicken or Loaded Jalepeno Popper Pizza. My kids love getting involved in the pizza making process and it’s a fun activity for our family on the weekend. If we’re really ambitious we will even make homemade bbq sauce.
The Best Homemade Bbq Chicken Pizza
We love making homemade pizza on the weekends because it’s easy, cheap, and fun! I save time by using a rotisserie chicken, but any cooked, shredded chicken will work. (Don’t put raw chicken on your pizza or it will not have enough time to cook through). I used that saved time to make favorite homemade pizza dough, but you could also use store-bought.

This pizza has been on my list of things to make for a long time, now. It all started back when Game of Thrones was in its first season. You see, back then, there was only one person in my group of friends who had HBO. So, every Sunday, we all gathered ’round their television with a pizza and a few beers.I don’t know whose idea it was to order this particular pizza, but all I can say
