Healthy Vegetable Pizza Recipes

Since going plant-based, my husband still craves his pizza but now we make it dairy free and load it up with colorful vegetables.

Though you can certainly use a store-bought pizza dough, I recommend making my homemade pizza dough which is so easy to make and results in a crispy yet soft and airy pizza crust!

Yummy

The best alternative to jarred tomato or marinara sauce is a 3-ingredient pizza sauce it comes together in under 2 minutes and is the healthiest tomato sauce ever!

I love bell pepper and red onion on my pizza but you can also add or substitute for any vegetable you like or have on hand.

I recommend dividing the pizza dough into two pizzas. You can bake them at the same time or one at a time.

As mentioned, you can certainly buy a store-bought pizza dough ball but I do recommend making your own homemade pizza dough. The dough is so easy to make and comes out crispy, chewy and light!

For the pizza sauce, use any sauce you have on hand or make my healthy 3-ingredient pizza sauce it comes together in under 2 minutes.

You will want to shape the dough into a ball and allow it to rest at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. This will relax the gluten and allow it to come up to room temperature.

The cornmeal will ensure that your dough will not stick to the baking sheet as well as allow heat to get under the pizza dough for an evenly baked crust!

If you are making one large pizza, spread it out into each corner of the baking sheet. You will have a rectangle pizza instead of round.

Once the pizza comes out of the oven, move it to a cutting board and top with the the dairy free cheese mixture, roughly chopped arugula, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of flakey salt.

Use a large chef's knife or a pizza cutter and cut it into 8 slices for the medium pizza and 12 squares for the large rectangular pizza.

Healthy Pizza Recipes That Are So Tasty You'll Ditch Delivery

Hi guys, so glad you are here! My food blog is about easy, colorful and mostly healthy recipes. I grew up in Germany and have been in the states since 2002. Currently, I am living in sunny Miami, FL! Please leave me a comment if you have questions or recipe requests and also follow me on social media via @. Happy cooking and eating! As a vegetarian for over a decade, I’ve eaten quite a few veggie pizzas. Truly fantastic veggie pizzas are few and far between. So, I combined all of the elements I’ve enjoyed over the years to create my own “ultimate” veggie pizza recipe. This is the best homemade veggie pizza I’ve ever had, and I hope you’ll say the same!

This vegetarian pizza recipe will delight vegetarians and carnivores alike. It’s fresh and full of flavor, featuring cherry tomatoes, artichoke, bell pepper, olives, red onion and some hidden (and optional) baby spinach. You’ll find a base of rich tomato sauce and golden, bubbling mozzarella underneath, of course.

The trick with loaded veggie pizzas, as many pizza shops seem to forget, is that they require a few extra minutes in the oven to develop full flavor and structure. Don’t stop baking until the cheese is deeply golden in spots. Otherwise, you might end up with floppy pizza that doesn’t live up to its true potential.

Healthy Vegetarian Pizza Options

Start with my easy whole wheat pizza dough, and this recipe is ready in about 45 minutes, start to finish. This vegetable pizza is quicker and healthier than delivery!

This pizza starts with a base of my whole wheat pizza dough. As an alternative, use one pound of store-bought pizza dough, which you can divide by two to follow my recipe exactly (or just make one large pizza—that also works with store-bought dough).

Then we’ll add the following. This recipe is truly very flexible—you can skip any of them if you don’t like ’em or don’t have ’em. Use more of one for less of another. Easy!

Whole Wheat Veggie Pizza Recipe: How To Make It

You have a few options here. You can use my go-to pizza sauce recipe, which is truly so easy! Or, use your favorite marinara sauce, homemade or store-bought.

Canned or jarred marinated artichoke is an easy addition here. I sliced my jarred quartered artichokes in half again to make bite-sized wedges.

Ever had sliced almonds on your pizza? It’s a trick I’ve learned from a couple of local pizzerias. The almonds offer some toasty flavor and crunch. I’ve heard from some readers who really love this addition, and a few who don’t—it’s up to you!

Simple Vegan Pizza

Hot from the oven, I like to top this veggie pizza with red pepper flakes, fresh basil leaves and finely grated Parmesan.

Make the BEST veggie pizza at home! This mouthwatering vegetarian pizza recipe features fresh cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, artichoke, spinach and more. Recipe yields two 11-inch pizzas or 1 large (about 6 to 8 servings).

Change it up: On top of the mozzarella, use any combination of the suggested toppings (up to 3 cups t0tal). The spinach and almonds are not essential.

Pizza night doesn't HAVE to mean it's unhealthy! Heck, I think even more indulgent foods are healthy to have every once in a while. It's all about moderation, right? But you don't have to worry about moderation with this veggie-packed pizza. It's cheesy, bright, full of fresh vegetables, and made with a simple homemade crust that you'll be shocked by how easy it is to make. It's our go-to when we want a simple dinner that still has good nutrients but tastes super fun and indulgent.

Butternut Squash Veggie Pizza

You can totally make this pizza your own, too. I love using a wide mix of colorful vegetables, but it's flexible as can be. Don't have all the veggies suggested below? Use what you have or love on pizza! Want to add some meat to give a little protein kick? Go for it! Pepperoni or sausage would be divine on this. Have fun and make it your own. Pizza shouldn't be serious anyway!

The best veggies to use on pizza are ones that are quick cooking since the pizza doesn't bake in the oven for all that long! For that reason, root vegetables like carrots or potatoes aren't the best options to use, unless you pre-cook them or cut them really small. My favorite veggies to use on pizza are mushrooms, bell peppers, onion, black olives, tomatoes, and fresh herbs!

Warm water:The warm water activates the yeast, which makes the dough rise. Careful it's not too hot, or else it'll kill the yeast.

Granulated sugar:A little sugar in the dough balances the hearty, savory flavors of the pizza. It won't taste sweet and acts more as a balancer.

Favorite

Veggies: I love using mushrooms, sweet bell peppers, red onion, black olives, and roma tomato. Top with fresh herbs after baking, like basil or parsley!

Sometimes I think leftover pizza is even better than the fresh kind! To store pizza, let it cool completely before placing in an airtight bag or container. You don't want to stack slices right on top of on another; if you have to stack them to fit, place pieces of parchment paper between slices so the toppings don't come off of the bottom piece.

Best Homemade Vegan Pizza

Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or the freezer for up to 4 months. To reheat, place pizza on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a 350 degree F. oven for 10 minutes, or until heated through. For frozen pizza, do the same but cook a bit longer, between 15 to 20 minutes. (You can also eat pizza cold straight out of the fridge... I think it's delicious!)
