You’ll love it because it tastes as good if not better than the real thing. Our family had our first taste of pan pizza years ago when we went on a trip to Disney World. We got into town late and we were all starving. The only restaurant near our hotel that was open was a Pizza Hut.

We ordered a pan pizza, and I remember it being the most delicious thing I had ever eaten. Now it could have been that I was ABSOLUTELY STARVING and anything would have tasted good, but ever since then I have had an affection for deep dish pizza.

After we got home, I found a recipe for Pizza Hut Deep Dish or Pan Pizza online andI knew we had to try it. With a few modifications to the pizza recipe, it was a huge hit! The entire family loved it and the three pizzas feed us all with some left over.

We all love olives on our pepperoni pizza too? What’s your favorite pizza topping? Are you a thin crust or a pan crust fan?

Did you make this? I love seeing what you made. Be sure to share a picture and tag @ on social media!I used to love Pizza Hut’s Pan Pizza – that chewy, crispy crust, thickly topped with sauce and cheese – it was so heavenly – and even better the next day! Their new gluten free crust – all 1/8 inch of it – just isn’t the same at all… so I created this recipe to help fill the gap. This recipe makes one large or three personal sized pizzas. Now if only I can figure out how to make their tiny ice cubes…

Mix together the Better Batter flour , psyllium husk, and salt. Set aside. In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar, yeast and water. Allow the yeast to sit until completely dissolved – about 5 minutes.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, with the paddle attachment, place half of the flour – about 2 cups. Add the yeast water and stir until well combined. Increase the speed to medium and beat for about 5 minutes. The mixture will be very wet, like a batter. Increase the speed to high and beat for 5 additional minutes. Set the bowl aside and allow to proof, covered, in a warm area for 2-3 hours.

Meanwhile, combine oil and butter flavoring. Rub oil all over the inside of the cast iron pan, then pour the remaining oil into the pan, until it is about 1/8 inch deep. Set aside

Remove dough bowl from proofing area. Add the rest of the flour and return to the stand mixer. Beat on medium speed until well combined – about 4 minutes. The dough should be between the consistency of cookie dough and bread dough and should adhere in a single lump. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to fit the size of the pan – you may divide the dough evenly if using multiple small pans to make personal pizzas .

Place the dough into the prepared pan – pressing with oiled or floured hands until the dough meets the edge of the pan. With your fingers, form a ‘lip’ around the edge – about ½ inch. Cover the pan and set into a warm area to rise for an hour.

Place your oven to the highest heat – for an electric oven, set the heat to 500 degrees. For a gas oven with a bottom broiler you can either set it to 500 degrees or use the Hi Broiler function. Allow the oven to get hot while the dough is rising.

Meanwhile make the sauce: combine all Sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat, and simmer until it thickens slightly, about ten minutes. Set aside.

When the dough has risen, spoon the sauce onto the pizza until it covers the pizza to a depth of about 1/8 inch. Top with cheese then with any additional toppings you may want. Place into the hot oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust puffs and the crust and cheese become golden brown.

Remove the pan from the oven and allow to cool for about 5-7 minutes – it will be very hot! – then use a pizza cutter to cut it into wedges. Serve in the pan at the table.

We look forward to hearing from you.If you’re a regular to this blog, then you’ll know my husband has celiac disease, which was one of the reasons I started this little venture in the first place. Since his diagnosis, he has missed a lot of the foods he once enjoyed. One such food is a deep pan pizza.

Up until the development of this recipe, hubby hadn’t found a gluten-free pizza base he liked, whether from a restaurant or the supermarket. We had slowly worked our way through lists of recommendations, and still he couldn’t find one he enjoyed. Part of the problem was he much prefers a deep-pan pizza base, but they’re pretty much non-existent here in Australia in gluten-free form; it’s thin and crispy or nothing. Back home, in England, prior to celiac disease, we would often take our niece and nephew out to Pizza Hut where we’d religiously order the deep pan base as it was so tasty we just couldn’t resist those nice thick crusts to nibble on.

Copycat Pizza Hut™ Bigfoot Pizza Recipe

One night a couple of weeks ago, my husband turned to me as he recalled such memories and asked if I could recreate his favourite Pizza Hut pizza, topped with ham, pepperoni, pepper, sweetcorn and onions. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I started researching and soon got to work in the kitchen, and I can tell you I produced a few rather rubbish pizza doughs at first!

Eventually, as I learnt more about the nature of gluten-free dough, I hit the jackpot. I nailed a recipe that delivered on texture (something very significant to hubby, who finds most gluten-free breads and doughs either fall apart or go rock hard) and that all-important Pizza Hut-inspired taste. I held my breath as I cut into it, hoping I wouldn’t find a soggy, undercooked centre, but no, it was light, spongy, perfectly chewy and hubby could pick up a slice without the base promptly giving way. It was a success! And the crust was golden, crisp and my husband’s favourite bit.

As you can see, this recipe is a little long-winded; there are a few steps, and it’s by no means quick to make due to the resting times, but the actual making and cooking of it is really easy. It will be worth the wait, I promise!
