This Christmas Tree Pizza has become a tradition in our house as our Christmas Eve meal. It's really easy to make, which suits us as there is enough cooking to do for the big day. Everyone can make their own pizza, so everyone gets the toppings they want, and it's festive theme. What more could you want?

It's a great way to get a few extra veggies into your belly before you drown in Christmas chocolate and Prosecco. No? Just us?

Christmas Themed Pizzas

If you want an activity to keep your kids and their friends occupied this Christmas, that results in food afterwards as well, then why not host a little pizza making party. It is pretty cheap to do, and they will have lots of fun.

Don't judge us, but we used a ready rolled pizza base for this Christmas tree pizza recipe. Of course you could make your own pizza dough, which we often do, but at Christmas time we are always looking for ways to save some time and a ready rolled base it great for that. If you want to go homemade, then use our Pizza Dough Recipe.

You can pick them up fairly cheap in the supermarket and then you just roll it out and cut it in to a Christmas tree shape, or any shape you want really. If your cutting skills are really good, why not go for a reindeer, or a Santa?

Christmas Stocking Pizzas

If you are hosting a party, why not cut out mini Christmas trees and top them (you will need to use smaller toppings) and serve them up as party food. I bet they wouldn't last long.

A pizza is really all about the toppings, and it's the toppings that really bring this Christmas tree to life. Once you have your tomato paste and cheese base, then you get to go wild with the toppings. Or why not use our Easy Pizza Sauce?

Kids will love putting together their own take on a Christmas tree. Perfect for if you don't trust them to decorate the real tree.

Christmas Cookie Pizza

We like to use strips of pepper to look like tinsel, pepperoni and cherry tomatoes to look like giant baubles and then chopped up pepper and sweetcorn to look like twinkly lights.

You could add small spinach leaves to look like leaves of the tree or even chop it up and put it under the cheese to give it a bit of a green veggie boost.

Once you have your dough rolled out and cut your Christmas tree shape, you are going to be left with quite a bit of leftover dough. DON'T THROW IT!! You could either shape it into a ball and roll it out again to cut more Christmas pizzas, or you could make a dough-ball Christmas tree.

To make a stuffed dough ball Christmas tree, shape the leftover dough in to a ball and then divide in to 15 pieces. Take each piece and make a circle and put a small bit of mozzarella at the centre of it.

Roll it into a ball around it and then put on a lined pizza tray. Continue making the rest in the same way and form a Christmas tree shape with them.

Put them in the oven for around 15-18 minutes, until starting to brown. Then brush them with a garlic and herb butter mix and let that soak in for a few minutes before serving.

Best Pizza Stocking Recipe

This pizza is very forgiving and you can put almost anything on it, so it makes it a great way to use up Christmas leftovers too. We used a mixture of cheddar, mozzarella and red Leicester. But you could put some goats cheese or blue cheese on it, or whatever you have leftover from the cheeseboard.

You can cut the dough shapes and chop up all your toppings in advance, but I wouldn't build the pizza until you are ready to put it in the oven. This would make the base quite soggy and it might not cook the same way.

But everything can be prepared in advance, ready to get out of the first for everyone to build their own Christmas pizza.

If you have leftovers of this pizza then you can store it in an air tight container in the fridge until the next day. You can reheat slices in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Heart icon Extra tips • Don't throw away the leftover dough. Either roll it out to make another Christmas tree, or make our Christmas tree dough balls. • Why not make lots of little mini Christmas trees and turn this in to party food. • Feel free to use different cheeses, and make it an easy way to use over the leftovers from the cheeseboard. • Host a Christmas tree pizza making party for kids and let them all decorate their own. • Don't want a traditional pizza base? Use puff pasty instead for something a bit different.
