The combination of the sweet and savory flavors of the barbecue sauce, the tender pulled pork, sliced onions, and cilantro is a delicious and unique flavor combination that has made BBQ pizza a popular choice for pizza lovers everywhere.
I think my friend said it best when she told me, “A good bbq pizza can turn your day around!” And I’ve got to agree with her. There’s just something about the sweet, smoky, tangy flavor combinations in a pulled pork pizza that make people happy!

This recipe uses bbq sauce in two ways. The first way is in the pizza sauce, and the second is to coat the pulled pork. To make bbq pizza sauce, simply combine pizza sauce and barbecue sauce.

We used homemade pizza sauce and Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce. Depending on which sauces you choose to combine, you can create different flavor profiles, from sweet and mild to hot and spicy.
We had leftover pulled pork to use for this pizza, but if you don’t have any, you can also buy ready-to-use pulled pork at many grocery stores. Pour the barbecue sauce over the pulled pork and stir until it is well coated. Of course, if your meat already has bbq sauce on it, you don’t need to add more!
Turning your oven into a bbq pizza oven is easy if you have a pizza stone. It helps to achieve a crust that’s similar to what you’d get at a pizzeria. To do this, preheat the oven and the pizza stone so that the bottom of the crust can cook on a hot surface and become crispy.

However, the hardest part is transferring the pizza onto the stone in the oven. But don’t worry; we’ve got some tips to make it easier. And if you don’t have a pizza stone, we have an alternative method for you.
Pizza Peel: Spread semolina flour on a pizza peel before adding your pizza dough crust. When you shake the peel, the dough should be able to slide around. If it sticks, sprinkle more semolina flour underneath.
Cookie Sheet: In case you don’t have a pizza peel, or it’s too small for your pizza, you can use a cookie sheet instead. Roll out the crust on a silicone mat, then sprinkle semolina flour on a cookie sheet before placing the crust on top.

Pizza Stone Alternative: If you don’t own a baking stone, you can make the pizza on a greased baking sheet. If you use this method, it is best to prebake the crust for five minutes before adding the toppings.
Carefully slide the pizza from the cookie sheet (or pizza peel) directly onto the hot pizza stone in the preheated oven. Bake the pizza at 425˚F for 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped cilantro.
Or, if you want to bake the pizza directly on the baking sheet, bake it at 425˚F for 10-15 minutes since you prebaked the crust for 5 minutes already.

To make a Hawaiian version, add diced pineapple chunks along with the other toppings before baking the pizza. Pineapple adds a sweetness that contrasts with the tangy barbecue sauce.
You can easily turn this pizza into a BBQ Chicken Pizza by swapping out the shredded pork for shredded chicken! It’s a great way to use leftover chicken, and it tastes fantastic.
You can make the whole pizza on a pizza stone on the grill. Preheat a grilling stone along with the grill and then slide the pizza onto it to cook the pizza.

Or you can make individual pizzas on the grill by precooking the crusts for 2 minutes and then adding the toppings called for in the recipe.
One: Pizza Stone Alternative Spread the dough on a greased baking sheet. Partially bake the crust at 425˚F for five minutes. Add the toppings and return the pizza to the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Two: Leftovers Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for 1-2 months. Reheat it in the oven, microwave, or air fryer.

Sadly, the restauranteventuallystopped carrying that pizza, and I have tried a LOT of BBQ Pizzas in an attempt to rediscover this classic.
The bad news is I’ve never eaten one that hits the same sense memory as this pizza from the days of yore.
This BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza started making am appearance when we had pulled pork in our fridge because it’s an excellent way to use leftovers. (These BBQ Nachos are also brilliant for pork leftovers.)

It’s such a wonderful combination: crispy crust paired with gooey cheese; melt-in-your-mouth shredded pork combined with a acidic tomato sauce and sweet-spicy-vinegary BBQ sauce.
Then you add red onion and parsley (or cilantro, if it doesn’t taste like soap to you) on top for the win.

If you don’t have pulled pork, this recipe can be made with shredded chicken. (We love rotisserie chicken for something like this, but you can use cooked chicken breasts or thighs.) Toss it in your favorite BBQ sauce before adding it to the pizza to give it some more barbecue flavor.

Preheat the oven to 475°F, and place a pizza stone into the oven as it heats. Heating the pizza stone in the oven will help the crust crisp up QUICKLY, especially if you roll it thin.
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured sheet of parchment paper, and set aside until the oven has preheated. Roll the dough to your desired thickness. We like to leave ours about 1/2″ thick.
Once the oven is hot and the pizza stone is heated, remove the pizza stone and transfer the pizza dough onto the stone.

This makes a 12 pizza. My husband and I can devour the entire thing, but it can be shared among more people if you are not super hungry.
You can make this on a sheet pan if you don't have a pizza stone. You might need to bake it for a bit longer to ensure the bottom of your crust is crispy. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to take notes about the favorite dishes we eat and attempt to recreate them at home.
This pizza is a copycat version of one we had at Regina Pizzeria in Boston. I think it might be our most favorite pizza ever: BBQ pulled pork, roasted chiles, caramelized onions, and a couple different kinds of cheeses. It’s pizza heaven.
Bbq Pulled Pork & Peach Pizza
The first thing you need to do is to get your caramelized onions started. Diced onions caramelize faster than strips of onion and the faster I can get that pizza made, the better.
I like to cook the onions for a full 20 minutes on the stove to get them nice and dark and sweet. The first photo shows them right when they go in the pan, the second photo is after 10 minutes of cooking,
