Vegan Pizza Recipe Gluten Free

Friends, it’s here! A vegan, gluten-free pizza crust that’s easy to make with ingredients you probably have on hand right now. Not to mention, it’s perfectly crisp on the edges and firm but tender in the center. Whoop!

The base flours are comprised of almond flour, potato starch, and arrowroot starch. Potato and arrowroot starch are particularly great for this recipe because they help make a firm and crispy-on-the-edges crust that’s also tender in the center.

We also included some flaxseed for binding (and fiber), olive oil for moisture (which you can sub for water if oil-free), oregano and garlic for added flavor, and vinegar and baking soda to help the crust rise a bit.

Vegan Gluten Free Pizza Crust

Having tried a lot of gluten-free crusts (our own, at restaurants, and box mixes), we can confidently say this is the best gluten-free pizza crust we’ve tried and SPOT-ON in flavor and texture. Swoon!

Once your crust is formed, bake for 10 minutes. Then top with desired toppings. We went for tomato sauce, peppers, onions, mushrooms, kalamata olives, oregano, and whipped almond ricotta cheese. But you could go any way you prefer. I could see pesto working well here, as well as my butternut squash sauce!

Pizza crust for you. We couldn’t believe how fluffy, crispy, and tender it was all at the same time. Plus, not only is it delicious hot out of the oven, it’s also tasty as leftovers the next day – cold or hot!

Also offer vegan cheese (especially vegan cheese that doesn’t suck). Shoutout to Nectarine Grove in Leucadia for satisfying all of my gluten-free vegan pizza cravings.

Gluten-free vegan pizza. I had never attempted homemade pizza crust before. Doing a gluten-free pizza crust that was also vegan, yeast-free, and easy to make? If that doesn’t sound like a challenge, I don’t know what does. But if I do say so myself (with reassurance from my dad and Kyle)…I nailed it.

You’ll also use water to help bring it all together. You simply stir all of the ingredients together, adding a little extra flour as needed to help the dough firm up to a thick, rollable consistency just past the point of sticky.

The dough bakes up into a crispy, thin crust. It’s not a soft, doughy style-crust, which is good for me, because I

For the sauce, we’ll be using a traditional red sauce. You can use your favorite premade or homemade pizza or marinara sauce. When using marinara sauce, I like to cook it down to thicken the sauce and concentrate the flavors a bit. Simmering it over the stove for 10 minutes does the trick for me.

For the pizza cheese, I’m ALL about a good homemade vegan mozzarella. If you’ve got a good blender, it’s easy to make your own vegan mozzarella. I find it bakes up better and tastes more delicious than store-bought vegan cheeses, but you can absolutely purchase your favorite vegan mozzarella to use here if you prefer.

I kept the pizza toppings classic, with sauteed onions and Chestnut mushrooms. The wild mushrooms are so flavorful I wanted to really let them shine, and the sauteed onions always make a perfect pairing with mushrooms, vegan cheeze, and tomato sauce.

This is a thin and crunchy pizza crust, which means less bread and more toppings to taste. Sometimes a thick crust can mask those delicious fresh toppings, like the ones you’ll find in this recipe.

This Gluten Free Vegan Pizza is also equipment-friendly. It calls for one bowl, a wooden spoon, parchment paper and an immersion blender or food processor to make the pesto sauce.

Flour.Gluten free all-purpose flour is what I usually use here. If you happen to run out of it, substitute all-purpose gluten-free flour for all-purpose flour at a ratio of 1:1.

Vegan Cheese. There is a wide variety of vegan cheese nowadays. For this recipe I use a curated cheddar type, one of my favorite for pizzas.

Spinach. I prefer to use fresh spinach but feel free to use frozen if that’s what you have on hand. Make sure it’s completely drained before adding to the pizza.

Pesto. You can use store bought pesto or homemade. You’ll find a step-by-step recipe below to make you own vegan homemade pesto.

Nutritional Yeast. This is an optional ingredient and it’s basically used to substitute cheese in vegan pesto. It has a strong, rich, and savory flavor that resembles cheese. It also adds more texture to the pesto sauce.

Pizza dough can be made 2-3 days ahead. Once the dough is kneaded and formed into a ball, refrigerate it. It will slowly raise in the refrigerator. Keep it covered or it will get dry.

Once the pizza is cooked, the leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated in the oven or the microwave before using them.

Once the dough is kneaded and formed into a ball, double wrap it in plastic wrap and place in the freezer. Alternatively you can also wrap it in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag or zip bag. It can be frozen for up to three months.

Sure! Feel free to use your favorite veggies, herbs and spices to make this vegan gluten free pizza. Fresh asparagus, sliced zucchini, sliced tomato, broccoli and onion rings are a great match, and absolutely delicious on top of the pesto sauce.
